David shipped: Emailed 18,000 UCT students about Kerra using Outlook scraping

David engineered and shipped a bulk email campaign to 18k University of Cape Town students, scraping email addresses via the Outlook People API with his own institutional cookies.

David identified the opportunity:

okay i found the unlock for my uni. need to tell everyone in my college about kerra.

After scraping UCT's Outlook directory and iterating on email copy:

i just think we need to convince their biological neural network that it isnt a marketing email. and the 'i built an ai app' opener would immediately make me close the email.

He workshopped the subject lines and settled on:

Amathuba Class Test/Exam Preparation Tool

He researched UCT's email policy and acceptable risk before proceeding:

i met with the university's CILT department to tell them about kerra so at least theres that. but i didnt tell them id be emailing the whole school. but tbh im emailing students from my uct email, using a directory im allowed to access.

He designed the send schedule around Outlook API rate limits and SAST prime-time windows (6:30–9:30pm for the first send, then 7–10am and 5–8:30pm daily), with a rate ceiling just below the verified 9,500/day rolling limit.
