David debugged: Questioned whether activity count of 53k events was inflated by tool results
David doubted a reported figure of 53,000 events from his Claude Code sessions, prompting an investigation that found the count was inflated by tool_results and then corrected to real prompt counts.
When the agent reported 53,000 events to populate the activity grid, David pushed back:
i dont think this is actually accurate. what is an event? a message i sent to claude code? cause ive definitely sent more than 53k. and certainly sent more than 6k to codex. what was the breadth of your search and how did you do it? and why is it called events and not messages?
The subsequent investigation found the initial count was counting tool_results as events alongside human messages, inflating the figure significantly. A corrected investigation using ~/.claude/history.jsonl and ~/.codex/history.jsonl came back with 9,698 Claude Code messages and 6,517 Codex messages over six months. David also asked whether the search had covered all environments — WSL, Windows, all repos — to ensure nothing was missed.
