David noticed: Tool usage counts inflated by tool_results, not just user messages
David investigated a suspicious session count that turned out to include tool_result events rather than only user prompts, leading to a corrected counting methodology.
When told he had sent 53k messages to Claude Code, David immediately challenged the figure.
i dont think this is actually accurate. what is an event? a message i sent to claude code? cause ive definitely sent more than 53k. and certainly sent more than 6k to codex. what was the breadth of your search and how did you do it? and why is it called events and not messages?
The investigation found the 53k figure was inflated because it counted tool_result events, not just user prompts. The corrected count was 9,698 Claude Code messages and 6,517 Codex messages over 6 months. David's challenge was correct — the inflated number was a counting artifact, not real message volume.
