David's problem: Twilio costs 60x higher than expected for SMS sends
David framed a cost anomaly where Twilio was billing $120+ over a few days despite the theoretical daily SMS cost being under $2.
David noticed the Twilio line item was catastrophically off from what the send volume should imply:
we are spending way too much money on twilio with the morning n evening texts that we send to users. but the math isnt adding up. like we used 20 dollars+ overnight and over the last few days have used over 120 dollars but with the number of sms we send out, given that most are to US users, and that the cost of each one should be less than a cent, and given that we only send out like 100-200 per day, the cost should be like 2 dollars daily and nowhere near what it is now.
After the investigation, David also decided to cut from twice-daily to once-daily messages as an immediate lever, explicitly saying cutting costs in half was insufficient and they needed an order-of-magnitude reduction.
